Green Railways II

A brief introduction: Valga Municipality has already been a partner in the "Green Railway" project in the past, which created a "Green Railway" on the territory of the municipality. Valga/Valka - Ape hiking trail, which runs along a historic narrow-gauge railway.

On the one hand, it is about reviving an old and interesting cultural heritage. On the other hand, the trail along the railway embankment is an ideal route for adventurers of all ages, as there are no steep ascents and descents. Set in an interesting natural setting, the trail is suitable for walking, cycling and skiing.

The aim of the project: The aim of the project is to further develop the cross-border tourism product "Green Railways", adding value to existing hiking trails and creating a stronger link with other tourism services and products in the vicinity of the trail.

The project will increase the accessibility of the hiking trail and related services to different target groups such as children, parents with young children, elderly and disabled people, and will involve representatives of different target groups in the process of designing services.

Main activities of the project: The aim of the project is to increase opportunities for active outdoor pursuits by providing better services and facilities. "During the implementation period of Green Railways II, an e-bike solution will be developed and the availability of trail information will be improved. The project will address physical, organisational and emotional accessibility barriers to support active people at all stages of life.

The project will purchase:

  • 5 electric bicycles: 3 for normal users, 1 for disabled people and 1 for transport.
  • Charging point with parking also for non-electric bikes
  • Information materials will be improved to guide both local residents and tourists to use green railways.
